Welcome brothers and sisters to the Royal Order of the Holy Mackerel!
In this meeting I talk about Kris Straub’s horror/comedy webcomic: Broodhollow.
In the first of the Royal Order’s secondary weekly meetings, I turn my attention to showcasing Kris Straub’s horror/comedy webcomic, Broodhollow!
Kris Straub is a prolific webcomic creator with several long running and ongoing strips to his name – including, Chainsawsuit, Starslip (Crisis), F Chords, Checkerboard Nightmare, and his current strip Broodhollow.
Broodhollow follows the story of Wadsworth Zane, a down on his luck door to door encyclopedia salesman working at the height of the Great Depression. Things seem to change in his favor the day he discovers a “dead letter” from his Great Uncle’s estate – informing him that he is the sole benefactor! So Wadsworth hops a train and finds himself in the oddly quaint town of Broodhollow – the town of a thousand holidays!
From there, Broodhollow opens lovecraftian themes of imagined/real horrors, forgettable phantoms, and mysterious secret societies. It’s a rich and fully realized world of complex rituals and confusing holiday celebrations.
The entire first story is both complete and free to read online – so it’s incredibly easy to fall into Broodhollow!
